In September 2013, the Asia Regional Leadership Team (RLT) met to reflect upon the Oxfam GB (OGB) urban framework. As a result of this consultation, the policy framework Urban Vision for Asia was developed. The document outlines the aspirations and commitment of the region towards urban programming in two traditional thematic areas: resilience and livelihoods. By 2016, at least five countries will be capable of implementing high-quality disaster risk reduction, WASH, active citizenship, governance, habitat (housing), and income programmes for poor women and men at a city-wide scale.
Under the RLT, the Urban Reference Group (URG) has been formed to provide leadership and strategy for urban programming and to ensure the RLT’s commitment toward realising this urban vision. The main purpose of this workshop is to ensure collective understanding, commitment and ownership of the urban vision among all key country programme staff, affiliates and partners.
The next URG meeting will convene on 6-7 March 2014 to further refine the vision and design the roadmap toward urban programming.
